Hello,

I have attached a photo that has GPS info in XMP but not in EXIF. Because of this, GPS values are not displayed in Picasa, iPhoto and few others.

How do I transfer GPS values from XMP to EXIF section with ExifTool, without affecting other metada? I want to perform this migration for more than 100 photos.

I believe this is possible with ExifTool and am hoping that I can get thorough help regarding the same. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Surya

Hi Surya,

The full ExifTool distribution contains an argument file ("arg_files/xmp2gps.args") that is designed just for this purpose.  With this file, the technique is this:

exiftool -@ xmp2gps.args DIR

where DIR is the name of a directory containing the images.

The argument file contains the necessary arguments to move the GPS information from XMP to EXIF.  I have attached it to this post for your convenience.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

Thank you so much, Phil! :)

I will ping you again if I need your help.

Phil,

This is to let you know that "exiftool -@ xmp2gps.args DIR" (exiftool.pl -@ xmp2gps.args DIR) did the magic! Thank you so much!!!

I am excited and thus planning to explore ExifTool in depth. Let see how it goes for the non-programmer newbie!

ExifTool rocks! Phil rocks!!! ;)
