ISO, SOS, REI, etc

Since ISO 12232 and before, photographic sensitivity is not referred to only as "ISO."  EXIF adheres to this.  There are a variety of methods for calculating the sensitivity and the EXIF value for it is not labeled ISO.  I see that "Exposure Index (EI)" is also an umbrella term.

How about camera makers?  Photographers?  Is the use of the term "ISO" waning?  It certainly was never a very smart name to choose.  But it has deep roots.
