Over the past years I build a new application to manage my photos, since I wanted to have a separate DAM from my editing applications.
The main goal was to keep it flexible, fast and as efficient as possible.
The result is my application called Photography Toolbox.
It can by used to cull images and view/edit metadata, but it also supports workflows and all things I would expect from a DAM.
For reading and writing metadata and for extraction of previews, Exiftool is used. ExifTool is a great tool with ever greater support! Thanks Phil for all you work here!
If you want to check out the application (no payment required although donations are appreciated), go to Link

For a short feature comparison with Lightroom see here: Link

The app is in beta status since it was developed by me alone, so even with me using it since 2022 for my production work, bug are to be expected. If you tried it and found a bug, I would appreciate your feedback (the same goes of course if you enjoyed using it).

Thanks for this note.  I've added a link from the ExifTool home page.
