There are many different formats for including location data with video, and exiftool is the best utility I've found for extracting timed location from video files. This has helped to develop an open text-based format called Web Video Map Tracks (WebVMT) for sharing video location data on the web.

WebVMT was published by W3C in September 2023 and I thought I'd share the new Get Started guide here for those interested in sharing geotagged video online.

There are three steps:
 1. Export video location data to GPX with exiftool
     exiftool -p gpx.fmt -ee3 VIDEO.mp4 [...] > VIDEO.gpx
 2. Convert to VMT with the free online tool at webvmt.org
 3. Display in a web browser

WebVMT is aimed at users of location-aware video cameras such as dash cams, drones and body cameras. If you find this useful, please join our online community to share your experience and knowledge.
