I have successfully used the tool to sort all my pictures (>15k) into subfolders based on month and years taken. However, the file count between the source folder and destination folder are not the same. There were no errors and I used the filemodifydate as a backup in the script so every file would have a date to sort by. Is there a way for the tool to copy files it had errors with or could not sort for some reason into a separate folder?

No, not really.

I would guess the problem is that the missing files are not writable file types (see FAQ 16 or just unsupported in general, depending upon your command.  You can include them as mentioned in the FAQ with -ext "*".
* Did you read FAQ #3 and use the command listed there?
* Please use the Code button for exiftool code/output.

* Please include your OS, Exiftool version, and type of file you're processing (MP4, JPG, etc).
