Title: Typo in Pentax LensType table
Post by: govage on May 30, 2019, 06:16:15 AM
Your table Pentax LensType Values (https://www.exiftool.org/TagNames/Pentax.html#LensType) has a typo for value '8 3' instead of Sigma AF 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC you should write Sigma AF 18-125mm F3.8-5.6 DC HSM
Lens Sigma AF 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC has value '3 29'
Image samples you can take from https://photohito.com/lens/brands/sigma/

I think that rather than a typo, there may be two similar Sigma lenses using the same LensType value.  I get When I google for "Sigma AF 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC", I get 23k results.  But I only get 14k results for "Sigma AF 18-125mm F3.8-5.6 DC".  So the current decoding seems to be a more popular lens.

I already had the definition for the Sigma AF 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC.

For example you can see that Photoshop shows this image
https://photohito.k-img.com/uploads/photo136/user135270/4/f/4f122ab518602afac0c478a01302befd/4f122ab518602afac0c478a01302befd_o.jpg
was taken using lens "SIGMA 18-125mm F3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM"
The same also for this image:
https://photohito.k-img.com/uploads/photo136/user135270/d/d/dd2eace42355b674e1c9882dabf96e1c/dd2eace42355b674e1c9882dabf96e1c_o.jpg

But exiftool shows that it is "Sigma AF 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC"
They both have tag LensType = '8 3 0 0'

You can check other images from here:
https://photohito.com/lens/brands/sigma/model/18-125mm_F3.8-5.6_DC_HSM_%28%EF%BE%8D%EF%BE%9F%EF%BE%9D%EF%BE%80%EF%BD%AF%EF%BD%B8%EF%BD%BD%E7%94%A8%29/
They should have tag LensType = '8 3 0 0'

Do you have any samples from a Sigma AF 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC?

I tried to attach the file, but server shows error "Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow."
I don't know why because the file is less than 8MB

I'm confused.  I got the file, but it is from a "Sigma 18-125mm F3.8-5.6 DC HSM".  You already posted a link to a sample from this lens.  I asked if you had an image from a "Sigma AF 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC".  I want to see if there is any way to distinguish between these two lenses.

Sorry, I don't have them.
But there are such images here:
https://photohito.com/lens/brands/sigma/model/18-125mm_F3.5-5.6_DC_%28%EF%BE%8D%EF%BE%9F%EF%BE%9D%EF%BE%80%EF%BD%AF%EF%BD%B8%EF%BD%BD%E7%94%A8%29/
For example this one:

Thanks.  This has LensType "3 29", so either it is an older version of the lens, or we have got the "8 3" entry wrong as you suggest.  I've sent an email off to the person who submitted the "8 3" entry to check on this.

I got the response back, and you're right, "8 3" should be  the HSM lens.  I'll fix this.

Thanks for the report.
