Title: exiftool reports *resolution as 1 windows shows 96dpi
Post by: jbills2233 on February 19, 2020, 06:05:22 PM
I am using exiftool 10.95 on windows 10 pro

exiftool gives *resolution as 1, this is the first time I have seen in several years of exiftool usage.

Windows file properties of the same file gives 96 dpi for both - which seems more likely to be correct

I've attached screen shots of the both the exiftool and windows output

Is this normal?  Which is correct?

Can I change the exiftool *resolutions to 96?  Will adversely affect the image/file?

Thanks in advance.

I tested with the latest release 11.87 with the same result

See FAQ #3 (https://exiftool.org/faq.html#Q3).  There may be multiple x/y resolution tags.  Probably one in the JFIF group and one in the EXIF group. By default, exiftool only shows one of them.

Many thanks, that must have been it.  The reason it was of concern is that I export and use the data in a report, it was rather obvious that something was amiss.

I solved it two ways:
- I changed the *resolution to the value shown in windows details
- I opened the file using Paint (old tech I know) and saved it as another name

In both cases exiftool then reported the resolutions as being 96.
