Title: Setting the same GMT data to each file
Post by: rendauphin on November 04, 2020, 02:59:17 PM
I have been searching and have yet to find a way to do this. I have a folder with 300 jpgs, some are set to GMT +01:00 and others are set to +00.00. I would like to unify them. Is there a way to do this please?

What tag are you viewing that shows this? See FAQ #3 (https://exiftool.org/faq.html#Q3) in order to figure this out.

Also, be aware that the file system related tags (FileModifyDate, FileCreateDate) will always reflect whether Daylight Savings Time was in effect at that time.  This cannot be changed as it is a function of the underlying OS.

I will output info on tags as FAQ3  but I should have said the reason I am doing this is because I change the date using these commands exiftool -datetimeoriginal="2015:02:22 00:00:00" *.*,
exiftool "-AllDates+<0:$filesequence" *.* and then upload to Google photos. The files are in the correct order in the folder but because the commands above do not change GMT Google then orders them with GMT +01:00 first.
Thanks

Set EXIF:OffsetTimeOriginal to the correct time zone or set the GPS coordinates.  Last time I checked, Google will read those tags for the time zone.  The time zone of the GPS coordinates will take priority over the OffsetTimeOriginal.

The command I used and the output is shown below. Have I misused the commands? --Thanks
exiftool -EXIF:OffsetTimeOriginal=1 *.*
Warning: Error converting value for ExifIFD:OffsetTimeOriginal (PrintConvInv)
Nothing to do.

This is the output from two files. The first shows as having GMT +01:00 in Google photos and the second as GMT 00:00

I cannot see any difference.
Thanks

If none of the tags I mentioned exist in the image, then there's no telling what Google uses to set the time zone.  I suspect that it has to do with the actual server that the file was uploaded to.  I've had completely random results when I tried to figure it out.  Sometimes it was PST, sometime EST, even though I was located in the Pacific Timezone.

One of those has an exif create date and it is in summer.

[ExifIFD]       CreateDate                      : 2002:08:06 02:21:32
