Not sure if this was already discussed (forum search engine always reports database error to me)?, but the IPTC has recently released a new mapping standard between EXIF, IPTC and XMP:
https://iptc.org/news/iptc-announces-rules-for-mapping-photo-metadata-between-iptc-exif-and-schema-org-standards/
Since the MWG seems to be real dead dead, maybe this is something we should look into?
Yes. This has been on my list of things to do for nearly 4 weeks now. :P I plan to look into this before the next release.

Unfortunately, the forum's host server is rather touchy and the search feature and some bad spider bots can cause the site to go down. I use Google with
Site:exiftool.org to limit Google results to just this website

I was almost sure you've heard about it. But I posted, just in case.
It's not urgent for me, but hearing that ExifTool might support this is good news.
I use MWG for my application by default, because even if the MWG has somehow silently dissolved, it was the best mapping 'standard' we had. Good that the IPTC looked into this.

Yes. That's what I use regularly. SPAM bots are a big nuisance, I have to screen every new user for my own community manually.
