hi, need help.
I downloaded my photos from Icloud, they are all with the wrong date, but with the photo there was a provided CSV file with information in this form:

imgName,fileChecksum,favorite,hidden,deleted,originalCreationDate,viewCount,importDate

There are files, the path to them is specified correctly.

What am I doing wrong?

Very odd.  What does this command show?:

dir "f:\photos\"

We have seen some very weird behaviour in Windows filesystems.  We could have seen something like this in the past but I can't recall the issue.

Maybe @StarGeek or some other Windows-type person has an idea.

I have windows 11, just tried on windows 10 on another pc. no difference.

if you try to do it in linux. will this help?

You can run some other tests to narrow down the problem.

Does ExifTool work with files on other disks?  If not, try re-installing ExifTool.  But if it does, try a file in another directory on drive F:.  Check the file permissions.  Be sure the file name doesn't have a hidden character in the extension (eg. "file.jpg ").  Try dragging and dropping one of the files that doesn't work onto the command line instead of using a directory name.

I don't understand how that could happen.

Maybe try the alternate Windows version of ExifTool (https://oliverbetz.de/pages/Artikel/ExifTool-for-Windows).

I just remembered an issue on Windows with arguments ending in \".  I think the backslash escapes the trailing quote.  So try using forward slashes instead:

exiftool -filemodifydate "f:/photos/"

(Why backslashes would work with the "dir" command and not exiftool, I don't know.)

Or double the backslash "f:\photos\\"
Or just not use quotes when they aren't needed f:\photos\
