Hi,
as far as I'm aware, the coming release DigiKam 8.3.0 will have a workflow included called 'Apply Metadata from a JSON file with exiftool', which allows adding EXIF metadata information via import directly within DigiKam.
The JSON file in my case is exported from Crown+Flint mobile app (more info under https://crown-and-flint.goodman-wilson.com/), which is an analog photography data logging solution and includes film roll, camera, lens, geolocation and metering information per frame on a roll.
This 'film roll' with all EXIF metadata included, can be exported as a JSON file for exiftool and the EXIF metadata can then be imported with DigiKam into the (scanned) image files.
Waiting to see the DigiKam release 8.3.0 going live.
From the Crown+Flint website (https://crown-and-flint.goodman-wilson.com/)
QuoteAnd of course, everything can be exported to your desktop computer. Crown + Flint produces data files compatible with ExifTool so you can add shot metadata as EXIF information to your digital scans, with more integrations on the way
Pretty cool they took the time to make it exiftool compatible.
Thanks for this note.

Creator of Crown + Flint here: We're big fans of exiftool, and are deeply appreciative of all the hard work you've put into creating it! Especially happy to have JSON as an interchange format! Thanks for the shoutout, therealrgiw!
I wish I could mark a post with a thumbs up!

Also there is a Lightroom plugin (MacOS) only for now that uses C+F file together with exiftool.
