The new icon is now being used for the exiftool Windows app (version 13.20 and later), but it wasn't showing up for me on the Windows desktop due to icon caching by Windows (I was testing on a Windows 10 virtual machine).  However, the icon appeared properly after running these commands:

ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache
ie4uinit.exe -show

I don't know if the 1st command was necessary...  The icon appeared after the 2nd command.

Hi Jean,

Thanks for the feedback, but I need more details about how what icon you are using and with what software.  The Windows application icons should have a white border. For web browsers the favicon.svg should be white when used with a dark-mode scheme.  But I just checked and the apple-touch-icon.png didn't have a white background, and I have just fixed that, so if this is a web browser icon and your browser uses this png then maybe the issue is resolved (but you will have to clear your browser cache).

Hi Phil,

Actually, it depends on the background color of the window. The darker the color, the less visible the icon becomes. The Windows Ribbon only supports BMP, PNG, or ICO formats. I converted the SVG to BMP.
(I'm using Metadata++)

Since you converted it yourself, you should probably just make the background white instead of transparent.

However, you have a choice of icons that you can download from the web site:

favicon.svg (https://exiftool.org/favicon.svg) - white in dark mode
favicon.ico (https://exiftool.org/favicon.ico) - 16/32/48 pixels
favicon_border.ico (https://exiftool.org/favicon_border.ico) - 16/32/48/256 pixels, white border
apple-touch-icon.png (https://exiftool.org/apple-touch-icon.png) - 180 pixels, white background
ET-1024.png (https://exiftool.org/ET-1024.png) - 1024 pixels
ET-256.png (https://exiftool.org/ET-256.png) - 256 pixels
ET-256_border.png (https://exiftool.org/ET-256_border.png) - 256 pixels, white border

Off-topic. I would really like that. Every now and then I agree completeley with someone's statement, but have nothing sensible to add, or dont want to add confusion.

P.S.: This post would be a good example where I would have used the Like button, if it were there.

There.  I've added a poll at the top of this post -- it's the closest thing I could find to a "Like" button.  :P

Does anyone know what icons are used as home page shortcuts by Firefox and Chrome on Android? (And any other browsers as well?)  And where the labels come from?

Here are the shortcuts I get for the ExifTool home page (left) and the forum main page (right) in Chrome (top) and Firefox (bottom) on Android.

Android Home Page.png

I can edit the icon labels for the forum when I create this shortcuts, but the ExifTool home page icons can't be changed ("ExifTool by Phil Harvey" for Chrome, and "Website" for Firefox).

These are the Bookmark Toolbar entries for these two pages as seen in Firefox on MacOS:

I've been playing around with AnimeGenius recently.  Here's an alternate version of myself:

I like this one better, and I've specified a more interesting background.

I can tell it's fake: the logo is wrong.
Otherwise it's a spitting image of you.
