Title: Pentax lenstype
Post by: metropolis on August 09, 2010, 07:06:30 AM
Hello,

I'm discovering exiftool and i find it very helpful :). But for the moment, i have a problem with some tags in the makernotes. On my Pentax K10D,  I use a samsung lens (50-200) , which is the same as the pentax model, but not for DxO Optics Pro. So, i want to change lenstype in the makernotes. I use 'exiftool -lenstype="Pentax smc DA 50-200 f/4-5.6 ED"', but exiftool reply to me '0 image files updates / 1 image files unchanged". I used -F option, nothing happened too.

Maybe there is another way to do that, but after reading FAQ and some anwsers in the forum, i'm lost. Can anybody help me ???

You will have limited success if you spell the lens name correctly, ie) -lenstype="smc PENTAX-DA 50-200mm F4-5.6 ED".

The only problem is that in K10D images the LensType is stored in two separate locations and only one of these is writable (because there are 2 unknown bytes in the unwritable version that I don't want to destroy in case they hold useful information).  But it is likely that Dx0 reads the writable version of this tag.

OK, i used the correct spell, but i still have an error : "error renaming imgp0307.pef". It's odd. A mistake from my own ?

Check to make sure that you have write permission for the file imgp0307.pef.  exiftool will try to rename this to imgp0307.pef_original when it writes the new file.

Phil, you're great. I succeeded when i realized that under Vista, i need to be administrator. Now, it's okay and DxO accept modifications so i can use the pentax 50-200 optical module.
So i think i will use for a long time now exiftool and recommand it for my friends.

Thank you again.
