Not really an EXIFTOOL question, but discovered this when using the Exiftool.
I want to display "thumbs" for a number of images, and use Exiftool to extract the thumbs. If there is no thumb, I load the file itself, if it is less than 1mb in size. This works fine for most images, but not for the .jpg images from my Blackberry 9700. Exiftool does not extract a thumb, and when loading the image into the application, it shows just grey.
I then realized that Windows-XP also has problems with these files. The files display as thumbs in Windows Explorer, but if I try to view a file with the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, I just get an error "Drawing failed".
Trying the same on Windows 7 works fine, and there my application also shows the thumbs for the images.
Anybody seen this issue?
I attach one .jpg file. Does anybody know of a "jpg-sanity-checker"

Hi John,
There is nothing wrong with the image you uploaded, but it does not contain a thumbnail. I believe the thumbnail is optional according to the EXIF specification. Any application displaying thumbs for this image would have to generate its own.

Guess I have to have my head examined. Or at least my VM running Windows XP. When I tried today, everything worked fine.
