Hi Phil!
I'm researching the current photo management/editing offer in the web to pick the best photo management software to handle my 200,000+ photo library.
So far, the program that offers the most complete info about the pictures is yours, including all the fields in the XMP, IPTC categories.
Well done!
In my research I've have found Picasa as an useful tool able to recognize faces and group them, so I could tag them with the names of the people in them. Those tags go straight to the field "Subject" (XMP) and to the field "Keywords" (IPTC). Your EXIF tool is the only able to "see" those tags. I wish a software like ACDSee were able to read that info. The following list are some of the software I tested: ACDSee, DigiKam, IrfanView, PhotoME, IDImager, Opanda, Zoner Photo Studio, Kalimages...
Please, could you advice me regarding a good photo database/ editor able to classify/search/modify the info your software is able to "see"? My plan is to keep using Picassa because of its face recognition abilities, tag the pics there and then handle them with other software.
Your expertise in this matter will be highly welcomed.
Thanks and congratulations for your software!

Hi Dino,
Just a couple of comments:
1) Be careful with Picasa because it has a long history of corrupting maker note information.
2) Last week the MWG released a new specification which gives a standardized way to store face information. Within the next year or two we may see this adopted by various applications, which may help with your problem.
3) I don't have any good suggestions for database software, sorry.

Thanks Phil for your prompt answer.
Regarding Picasa I noticed something like once a group of pictures was tagged, not all of them got the tag, and sometimes, after browsing the pics with the software, some tags in a few pictures are gone.
Anyways it seems to be that we have to build our own db application using yours as a part of it (like a dll). I'll keep researching and I'll keep you posted in case I find something useful.
I'm dissapointed with ACDSee, only part of the XMP and IPTC info is shown and ready to be used as indexes for searches.
Thanks a lot,
Dino Palazzi
Hi Dino,
If it is about metadata security.. maybe you should tryout IMatch (http://www.photools.com). As far I know, there's exiftool used for metadata management.
Anyway, maybe not that fancy, IMatch is highly (metadata) customizable image database software -and probably because of that, somehow hard to start with.. so, one should be prepared to learn how to use it effectively.

Thanks Bogdan!!
I think that is what I was looking for. I downloaded the trial version, and I was able to see the tags in the IPTC section of the metadata, written by Picassa. I like the way it handles the database. Now I will test it in deep to know more features, because I saw that you can customize the info you need to read.
I will also test Adobe Bridge and I will compare them to decide.
So far, the softs able to "see" the labels set by Picasa are "Full Image Info" and "iTag", but none of them as complete as ExifTool.
Thanks a lot!
