Title: software system tiff repository has files with no extension
Post by: scorellis on December 20, 2010, 04:40:07 PM
I am just wondering (and hoping) if there is a way to query the exif data from a file repository where all of the files in the repository have been given a GUID for a filename - with no file extension.  I ran tool earlier against a repository that has 17 thousand images in it and only got results from files that had tiff extensions (because I put them there in my troubleshooting).   There is a mixture of filetypes in here, basically it is a tiff/native repository and i am trying to find bad tiffs.  Thanks!

Yes Scott.  ExifTool will recognize files without extensions.

There are cases where some file types are not distinguishable, in these cases the base file type is reported.  (ie. some RAW images based on the TIFF format will be reported as TIFF if the file format doesn't contain a unique identifier.)
