When Sony A900 is in "APS-C size" mode, 0xB001 SonyModelID is recorded as 262 rather 257.
This is true whether forced into this mode by connecting Sony/Minolta DT lens, or by selecting manually.
Tested with Minolta 11-18 and Sigma 30mm f1.4. Both are apsc-only lenses.
This is very interesting, thanks! I will add this to the next release.
I wonder if other Sony full-frame DSLR's have this feature, and what SonyModelID's they give for APS-C mode.

This tag appears to be present ONLY in the A850 ARW files, NOT in the A850 JPG files.
From the below results (with the Sigma 10-20mm lens the camera does NOT switch to crop mode!):

Hi Jos,
Thanks!
Yes, the SonyModelID is found only in ARW images.
The difference in the LensType (changing from 128 to 46 in APS-C mode) is odd, and unfortunate. I'm not sure it is worth adding the Sigma as LensType 46 just for this. :-\ And if it happens with this lens, it probably happens with others too. :(

No, sorry, that is not what is happening:
I used two different lenses for this:
- the Sigma lens where the camera does not automatically switch to crop mode
- and the Zeiss DT lens where it does.
I did not select the crop-mode via the menu.
Ah, thanks for explaining. I understand now. :)

And a further addition to the ModelID numbers:
from the A57 sample images on dpreview.com:
Sony SLT-A57
Sony Model ID = 292
(also available in JPG files)
Thanks! I was looking for A57 samples too! :)
Nice that the SonyModelID is in the JPEG for this model.

Hi Phil,
In addition to the SLT-A35 (Model ID 285) I mailed you earlier, one more Sony Model ID:
C:\TEMP>exiftool -*model* VG20-Test-Pattern.ARW
Sony Model ID : Unknown (290)
Lens Model : E 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS
Camera Model Name : NEX-VG20E
(ARW file from: http://vimeo.com/groups/nexvg20/view_file:12471 (http://vimeo.com/groups/nexvg20/view_file:12471))
This is great! You're really on a roll with these SonyModelID's. :)
And thanks for the ARW link... I didn't have one for the NEX-VG20E yet... Now if I could only find one for the VG10E (or maybe this model doesn't produce ARW's)...
- Phil
Edit: I checked, and it looks like the VG10E doesn't shoot raw pictures.
Yes, well, these models were introduced not so long ago, and they were not yet on the list - then it is just a matter of finding sample images.
But I have no idea what e.g. model 291 could be, as all the recently introduced Alpha/NEX are already listed.
Also the other "open spaces" - no idea what to look for ...
About the VG10: I checked some JPG files, with makernotes, but here is no ModelID. If it exists for the VG10, it is probably 276 or 277, near the NEX-5. But how to verify, if it is not in the JPG files and ARW files don't exist ??
Hi Jos,
Interestingly, you will find some devices in the CanonModelID list that don't produce any images at all (ie. the wireless file transmitters). But I can't say how these numbers were determined because I received them anonymously. :)

This question was answered with the newly released SLT-A37:
---- IFD0 ----
0x010f Make : SONY
0x0110 Camera Model Name : SLT-A37
0x0131 Software : SLT-A37 v1.01
---- Sony ----
0xb001 Sony Model ID : Unknown (291)
Although the successor to the A35, it appears to belong to the newer group of A57/A65/A77, and not to the CameraSettings3 group.
Excellent, thanks!
- Phil
And 293 is the NEX-F3. :)
