I'm trying out the Win-8 Release Preview (Build 8400).
I had ExifToolGui 5.1.3 installed on my Win-7 partition, and it worked fine. I copied over the directory tree to the Win8 partition, and it also worked fine. So far, so good.
However, I decided to see if there was a new version, which there was ... 5.1.4 (and 8.96). However, when I attempted to run 5.1.4, I got the error message:
"Windows protected your PC
Windows SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk.
Unknown Publisher
App: ExifToolGUI.exe"
Certainly, Win8 isn't RTM, but I thought it would be helpful to bring this to your attention.
HTH.
Odd that 5.1.3 was ok, but 5.1.4 is having a problem.
Hi Allan,
Thank you for that info. Haven't tried Win8 and probably won't anytime soon. However, it's good to know what to expect. Btw. nothing much changed in v5.14 so I really have no idea what's about... as it seems, in Win8, you either trust some application or not... GUI is programmed in very "primitive" manner, so I wouldn't expect seeing such message for it in Win8. Let's wait :)

I looked at it a bit closer, and there was a "More info" button. When pressed, there was an option to "Run anyway" which I tried, and it seems to be working.
False alarm ... sorry.
