Title: error 80020101
Post by: cwdier on July 11, 2012, 08:50:11 AM
Hi , thanks for the great tools !

However, I am getting the "Could not complete operation due to error 80020101" message, when I press the "show on map" button in the "GoogleMap" tab. It seems to be an java related issue. I have java 7 upd. 4 and also java 6 upd. 33 (0n another computer). Use XP pro SP2.  This is the first time that I am using Exiftool GUI version 5. I updated both Exiftool and ExiftoolGui yesterday to the latest versions.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

I really can't say why you get this error message. Is it possible you set one of images that cause trouble available for download somewhere? That way we could say for sure it's not (gps) metadata cousing this error.

Thanks for quick answering, Bogdan!

I certainly could do that, but I am afraid that this would not help. It seems that ExiftoolGui  is not connecting to the google maps servers. When I press the get location, geotag files or set^  buttons or the slider in the googlemaps tab, I get this same error message, even without a file being selected. When I press the Show on Map button without a file being selected, I only get the "no file selected" message. When I press the home button, nothing happens with or without selecting a file. The map area in the tab remains empty always. When   the cursor is in this area, the hourglass appears. And yes, I have selected the "enable internet access for google map" option. I have also  included a firewall exception for ExifToolGui

best regards..

I see.. that is, you don't see a map in Google map tab at all?
I have Windows7 here, but I'm confident, that GUI (Google map) is running normally on WinXP SP3 too. I never tested on SP2, but I somehow don't think that's the problem.
However, in past, I did have some bad experience with Java installed (not neccessary related to Google map). For that reason, I don't install Java anymore on my PC... and still, everything works.
I suggest, you try GUI on another PC, if possible... or uninstall Java from your PC (unless you really need Java).

Just checked something .. As it seems, on your PC, something is blocking GUI to access internet! -if I disable GUI in my firewall, I get the same error.

I have tried it in 3 different CPUs, one of them has SP3, the others SP2.  As the Firewall not even advised that Exiftoolgui was trying to access something at the internet, I am quite sure that the program not even requested this access for some reason. Maybe I have some dll or what missing ? Anyway, I'll try to disinstall Java on one CPU.  Picasa probably uses a similar approach for geotagging, and it runs OK.

Also noteworthy is, that apparently no one else had this problem...

Thanks! :-[

I use free Sphinx firewall control (http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/order.html ), which isn't separate firewall software -it's just a simple panel which makes controlling you existing (Windows) firewall more easy. Install it, and you'll see that you'll be asked if you wish to allow GUI to access internet. It's very leightweight and easy to use software -I recommend it.

hi,
everytime I try to get googlemap-data the error 80020101 is invoked.
this problem was reported half a year ago - so the forum-program told me to start a new thread even tough it´s not new.

I am using winxp sp2 on a normal desktop computer.

I have merged your post with the old thread.  The forum program isn't very smart sometimes.

It doesn't seem as if this problem was ever resolved, and I'm not sure if there is much hope of getting it fixed now that Bogdan is taking a vacation from ExifToolGUI.  Unfortunately I can't help with this myself.

Yup...! Thanks for the attention, in the meantime, I've run some filemonitor sessions to see whether ExifToolsGUI was requesting some missing file, but could not find any evidence of that. Maybe there is some issue with the Google Maps APIs or something.  :-\
