Title: ExifTool on Windows: Dreaming of an info window on right clicking a file...
Post by: Karsten_M on September 05, 2012, 03:20:37 PM
Hi ExifToolers,
I would find it very useful to get a window with shows the EXIF Data of a certain file (JPEGs in my case) when doing a "right click" in the explorer.
I'm not really sure if that could be done without programming something...

Any idea?

Thank you for help!

This post (https://exiftool.org/forum/index.php/topic,4070.msg19148.html#msg19148) indicates there is a way to get a "Send to ExifToolGUI" feature into Explorer, but I don't know how this is done.

Hi Karsten.

1. Create a Shortcut to Exiftool (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/140443).
2. Edit the Shortcut by adding the desired options after the Target path. To edit, right click the Shortcut and click "Properties".
    Now the Target line looks something like "C:\Path\To\Exiftool\exiftool.exe" -k -a -u -g1
3. Add the new Shortcut to the Send To menu (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/customize-the-windows-vista-send-to-menu/)
4. Right click any file, mouseover "Send to" on the context menu, and click on the item with the name of the new Shortcut.

Thank you so much, Phil Harvey and Jim "ryerman"!

Phil,
I'll try this!

Jim,
thank you for reminding me on things I should have known.
It can be done easier: Just go to
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
(you can copy this into the adress bar of the explorer) and there do a right click, then "new" "link"...

The drawback that this window is a simple DOS window, but I did ask for exactly this solution.

Best Regards,
Karsten
