Title: Tags by numbers in former exiftoolGUI versions
Post by: scharott on February 03, 2013, 05:31:52 PM
Hello Bogdan,
nice to see, that you are back on the bridge !
I remember, that in former versions of exiftoolGUI had a number in some tags. Especially the tags "LensType" and "LensSpec".
Now I see information from the exiftool data-base, like: "Minolta or Sony or Tamron or ......"
This is the basic problem, that some lens producers don't use a special LensType number for every lens type.
In my case: I'm using a Sigma 18-50mm on a SONY and des LensType=30. From the database comes "Minolta 28-80mm or Sigma Lens".
I'm using some other Sigma-Lenses AND a Minolta 35-80mm too.

Now I'm using exiftoolGUI with ARGs-files and there I'm changing some tags.
In the example:     LensType=30     LensSpec= "00 18 50 3.5 5.6 00"

This makes it comfortable to see a true lens information and helps in any following actions (raw converting, etc).

In the new exiftoolGUI I can change in "Options" --> "Show tag values as numbers", but it is only temporary !!
Is it possible, to add it to the fixed configuration in the INI-File  -  like the option "Show composite tags" ?

I hope you'll put it up on your "To-Do"-list.
Best regards
