I get 'Error renaming temporary file' when I try Exif edit or Exiftool direct. This happens on the new & old GUI.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit & also get the error in SAFE mode with no AV & very few services running.
Using the command line I can write to the files OK but I have many updates in many directories to do & this method will be futile.
Any ideas?
I don't understand why this should happen in the GUI but not from the command line. The only thing I can think of is that the GUI process may have different permissions, but I don't think that this would explain the problem.

Funny thing is when I started using EXIFTOOL GUI on RAW images a couple of weeks ago it worked fine. Then it started failing on some files & not others of the same file type. Now it seems to fail on every file. It's as though it built a cache & won't let me change these files again.
Also when it was working the icon in the file list contained the image preview...when I started getting errors the icons went blank & remain blank.
If you start from a fresh file, does it always work? And does it always not work if you edit the same file again?
Maybe check the permissions of the file before and after the first time it writes the file.

Solved: Had a program called Sagethumbs installed which allows the displaying of thumbnails of files not recognized by windows. I removed it & now EXIFTOOL GUI
Solved continued: EXIFTOOL GUI works fine now. Guess the two can't work together for some reason.
Note: I found this by using Nirsoft's Process Monitor.
