Title: Misformatted EXIF:UserComment field
Post by: lintujuh on November 25, 2013, 02:50:57 AM
Hi,

I tried to copy contents of UserComment to Title in some of my older images and the result was partial garbage (exiftool 9.41). I did some googling and found that some versions of Canon's ZoomBrowser have not been formatting the UserComment field correctly. ZB has put only one NULL and then seven random characters at the beginning of the field (http://libexif.sourceforge.net/internals/exif-entry_8c-source.html (http://libexif.sourceforge.net/internals/exif-entry_8c-source.html), line 360).

I wondered would it be possible to have an option to ignore the text encoding part?

Best regards
Juha

Hi Juha,

Thanks for this report.  I will include a patch in ExifTool 9.42 to tolerate the garbage written by Canon Zoombrowser.

Tested with 9.42 and a corrupted file – Working!  :D
