Why does exiftool(-k).exe have to be installed on c:\windows\?
I would be really nice if I could have it in the same folder as ExifToolGui.exe.
I tried that and it did not work, but having everything self contained would be nice for USB drives and also in my case I don't like to put extra stuff in the Windows folder.

My copy of ExifToolGui and ExifTool are not in the C: drive and all works well. You need to rename the downloaded exiftool(-k).exe to exiftool.exe for the gui to work. Let us know if this solves your problem.
Thanks for the fast reply and information. I guess I saw the part on the web page about putting exiftool in the Windows directory but miss the part about renaming it.
I guess now my question is how to easily add new standard IPTC fields. It looks like some defaults are predefined. It also looks like I can add others, but not sure fully about the syntax. Does the GUI have a drop down selection of all the other "major" iptc codes like from

In ExifToolGUI, all writing is done from the Workspace panel. You add all of the standard tags you want to write to this panel.

Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean about adding new IPTC tags to the Workspace. Just thought it might be nice if there was a drop down list of all the tags in the Workspace Manager area that already had those defined so one could just select from a drop down. Maybe for version 6 :)
I do have a more pressing question.
I have an XMP Tag for description (I thought it was an IPTC TAG but ExifToolGUI) shows it as XMP. However the description is multi-line long description.
Could the fields in the XMP and IPTC and other needed areas in the display be adjusted to expand if more data is there and/or have a scroll bar for really long stuff?

I think the answer to that question is no. ExifToolGUI is not actively being developed.

Sorry to hear it is not actively being developed. I had noticed before that the last version was ExifToolGUI v5.15, January 8,2013.
I figured just over a year without a new version was not big and was hoping it was still being developed.
It is still a good tool and I hope the Author will bring it back up with new features.
Not to Put down ExifToolGUI is there another GUI based ExifTool that has some of the same power and flexability as ExifToolGUI?

No, but you might look into Geosetter (http://www.geosetter.de/en/). I know it does more than just geotagging, but I'm not sure how much more.
