Post by: Alan Clifford on February 25, 2014, 08:51:48 AM
Phil, have you seen this?  They are using a sidecar file for the raw changes this time.

Another piece of Nikon software for you to love!

later ...  But no transfer functionality.

Nice.  Hopefully their downloaders will also stop mangling the NEF files.

If you have a sample of this sidecar file, please post it or email it to me.

Thanks.

You posted whilst I edited.  No transfer functionality.

I'm going out soon but will explore it this evening and send you a sidecar file.

Here's a sidecar file.  exiftool appears to recognize it already.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the sample!

Nice.  They are using XMP format.  Smart.

I always wonder why these device vendors always reinvent the wheel and don't fit into existing specifications  ::)

What's the real demand do not write Rating and Label into the standard XMP fields?

An excellent point.  This is unfortunately very common.  From my point of view, it seems as if camera makers either don't care, don't realize, or are in denial that their customers use software other than their own.
