Hello everyone,
I am user of the program "IMatch 5" and when I try to edit some data (mostly "nef" files) I get the following error: "Error reading value for ExifIFD entry 13 - E: / Photos / 2006 -12 to 29 / _DSC1408.NEF ".
The forum "photools.com Community" advised me to put my question to you, I hope to post the right place. I copied the entire text of the error message in the attachment.
Thank you in advance for your help
I suspect that something has messed with your NEF file. If you can either send me the NEF, or the output of "exiftool -htmldump" for this file, then I will be able to help more. My email is philharvey66 at gmail.com

How about a "exiftool -htmldump"? ???
It sounds like you don't know how to do this. See this page (https://exiftool.org/htmldump.html) for more information. You can attach the output html file to your post.

I succeeded. My file was to send.
Content I ;)
The culprit is IDImager. This is the software that appears to have messed up your NEF. It has effectively destroyed the maker notes in this NEF (this is entry 13 in the ExifIFD), which is very serious. I would be surprised if other utilities could display this image properly now.
However, it seems as if the original ExifIFD may still exist, but you would have to use IDImager to un-do this mess if it can.

Thank you for your help, I will try to repair this photo (and others who are in the same situation, alas) with IDimager.
What is surprising is that Lightroom displays very well the photos in the "library" and is even able to edit the image in the module "development" and export. But even this new version (exported 'original format', so nef) can't be displayed either by ViewNX or CaptureNX and metadata modification attempts give me the same error with IMatch 5.
Always keep an untouched original of your photographs and work on a copy. Storage space is not expensive these days.
Exact Alan, I just look at my backups ... and no backups of these files is exempt from the same mistake. Alas for me. :-\
