Title: ExifTool 10.00 call to arms
Post by: Phil Harvey on May 08, 2015, 11:40:21 AM
ExifTool version 10.00 is now about 5 weeks away.  I want this version to be as bug free as possible, so please update to a current version (9.94 or later) and let me know if you find any problems so we can fix them before 10.00.

And to avoid introducing new bugs before version 10.00, I will resist making significant changes or additions to the code for versions 9.95-10.00.

We're in the final stretch before the landmark 10.00 release! -- Let's make it as close to perfect as we can!

Thanks to everyone who has helped so far to get ExifTool to this point.

- Phil

I totally applaud your enthusiasm :-> but have to mention:

From a user's perspective, a .0 release generally is expected to be bug-ridden, and you'll have to do a lot of explaining why this is different with this app to people not following a dev process. That's b/c in most software, a new .0 number means major new features introduced, so the last "just works" 9.99 might be guessed to be more stable - otherwise the numbering scheme would have continued with 9.100 and so on.

Disclaimer: Again, I know it's different here, just sayin' :-p

Version 10.00 is now out.

As mentioned, I try to make these production versions as stable as possible, so people shouldn't be afraid to download this new version.

My estimate of 5 weeks turned into a bit more than 14, mainly because I don't spend as much time on the computer when the weather is nice. :)  But that works out fine because it gave people a couple more weeks to find bugs in version 9.99.  However, none were discovered, but I guess that is OK too.
