Title: Nikon reports possible View NX-i image data corruption when using Nikon Transfer

Phil's utility might need updating soon.

I know the transfer program doesn't just copy files but this is ridiculous.  And perhaps it is not all Nikon's fault;  surely an incremental upgrade of an operating system shouldn't break user software?

This is the 3rd time that Nikon software has corrupted its images.  From my Fix Corrupted NEF page (https://exiftool.org/fix_corrupted_nef.html):

Quote[Note that Nikon doesn't learn from their mistakes, and a similar problem happened 2 years earlier with an older version of Nikon Transfer and the D5000 (read here), and the new Nikon NX-D software has other corruption issues. The moral is: Don't use Nikon Transfer or any other utility that modifies the file to download your precious images!]

I have long warned about this and advised against using Nikon software (even before I was aware of the corruption problems) because their software does stupid things like adding/removing information and changing byte ordering.

You should never use Nikon software on your images without being sure you have them backed up first.

Yes, and I find it very suspicious that an O/S update could cause an app to start corrupting files.  Here is the translated text from the Nikon Japan web page:

QuoteThank you very much for your continued patronage of Nikon products.

It turned out that image data may be corrupted when transferring images using Nikon Transfer 2 on macOS Sierra version 10.12.2 in our software "View NX - i".

ViewNX-i Ver.1.2.4 which started publishing at our download center on November 22, 2016 supported macOS Sierra version 10.12, but since it is not compatible with macOS Sierra version 10.12.1 or later, We are currently checking compatibility.

For this reason, compatibility with macOS Sierra version 10.12.1 or later can be confirmed, and please do not use Nikon Transfer 2 until new guidance from us.

We are also considering upgrade of software version corresponding to this phenomenon, so we will guide you as soon as preparation is completed.
