Title: Image MetaWriter, A Batch Metadata Writer for Linux
Post by: 3ndymion on March 10, 2017, 10:48:16 PM
Hello to all!!!  And a big thank you to Mr. Phil Harvey for ExifTool.  It's proven to be very great.  I made a little program for Linux that uses ExifTool to embed metadata into images in batch process.  It's a command-line program just like ExifTool, but with the goal of being easy to use.  It's called Image MetaWriter.

The main goal of this program is to embed unique titles & comments into many images at once.  It also allows you to set up some more info to embed into your images, such as your name, title, contact, etc...  You can even provide a Creative Commons license file to embed into all of your images as well.  All of these things are put together & embedded into your images in 1 operation.  Also, it gives you the freedom to embed your metadata in any combination of the 3 metadata sections (EXIF, IPTC, XMP) that you please.

All info & details can be found on the download page:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/image-metawriter/

For anyone who uses Linux, please feel free to try it out.  It might prove useful to you.  I fear I'll probably get a scolding for creating this program the way that I did, but I went through with it anyway in the hopes that it would be helpful to other people.   :)  Please feel free to provide any feedback, good or bad.  I'll be slowly building this program as time goes by, & I hope to make it better & better.  Thanks for looking.   ;D

Hi again.  I'm back to report that my link is dead.  I don't know what's going on, but I think I'm being attacked by someone on social media.  When I started posting about my program, my posts began disappearing.  Not too long after that, my project completely disappeared from SourceForge!!!  I can't even log into my account anymore.

Might as well take the link down, I guess.  It'll probably be a couple of days before I can find out what's going on.   :'(

Wow.  Please let me know what happened when you figure this out.  I have ExifTool on SourceForge too, and wouldn't like to see this happen to it.

Hi again, & thank you very much.  I just got back home now... I'm scrambling, learning how to use the "other" host so I can get it on there right away.  I'm beginning to fear that maybe SourceForge will return to their old practices of maliciously taking over people's projects, starting with myself... but then again, it could just be some troll from Google+ or something.  I really don't know.  I've been e-mailing them, & hopefully, they'll get back to me tomorrow during their business hours.

I have no idea what's going on right now, but I really don't like it.  It's hurtful & totally not fair.  This is not how I envisioned my 1st steps into the world of development.  Thank you very much again.  I will definitely let you know what's going on once I find out.  Hopefully, it will be just some small misunderstanding or something.

OK, I'm back again.  It seems that the whole trouble I had was with an automated spam filter that saw my project as spam.  Apparently, it seems that when I posted a post with links into my project's forum, that triggered the spam script since my project is brand new & the forum is still empty.

You can see all the info in 2 tickets that I opened with them:
https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/feature-requests/555/ (https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/feature-requests/555/)
https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/site-support/14690/ (https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/site-support/14690/)

They were able to restore my account, & they restored my project too, & all my links work again.  I'm quite happy now.  I had the worst worries, but I guess their new management is really living up to their promise of cleaning up the site's past.  I apologize for the weird situation.  I'm new to all this, & I certainly did not see that one coming.
