Title: Thank you!
Post by: ajmicek on December 09, 2019, 01:15:00 PM
Just came here to say a word of thanks.

I've used ExifTool for four years and it has always exceeded my expectations, never let me down, and has consistently added extremely useful features. Here are two examples:

One day, back in 2016 or so, I was increasing the security of my personal website by deleting the GPS tags from public images I had uploaded over the years. And I thought to myself... man if I could just have a GPS wildcard that removes all GPS data, that would be really helpful. Sure, most of my images come off iPhones, but it would be nice peace of mind to have that wildcard to strip GPS from photos from any camera. At first, I found a discussion about the topic where Phil was outlining the issue: http://u88.n24.queensu.ca/exiftool/forum/index.php/topic,4686.0.html (http://u88.n24.queensu.ca/exiftool/forum/index.php/topic,4686.0.html) ... but then, wouldn't you know, Phil added that precise feature, e.g.: http://u88.n24.queensu.ca/exiftool/forum/index.php?topic=6037.0 (http://u88.n24.queensu.ca/exiftool/forum/index.php?topic=6037.0) Amazing!

And this past year I decided to upgrade some code to properly handle HEIF/HEIC image files, and just as I was puzzling through the EXIF storage/editing problems this created, Phil updates ExifTool to handle writing https://exiftool.org/ancient_history.html#v11.43 (https://exiftool.org/ancient_history.html#v11.43)!

So, ExifTool is amazing. Because of it, the code I write is far less brittle, far less ugly, and far more capable. THANK YOU!

You're welcome!

Thanks for the note.
