I am no longer getting "Focus Distance :" back after a firmware update to my Z7. I posted a question to a DPR forum and here's the conclusion that the nice folks came up with:
"The FocalDistance tag is in what Phil Harvey calls the "LensData0800" subIFD, here's the extract for the NEF that has the tag:
| | | 59) LensData0800 (SubDirectory) -->
| | | + [BinaryData directory, 108 bytes]
| | | | LensDataVersion = 0800
| | | | LensID = 8
| | | | MaxAperture = 352
| | | | FNumber = 352
| | | | FocalLength = 58
| | | | FocusDistance = 90"
"Yes, NOB0193 uses LensData v. 0801, and exiftool doesn't know this version yet."
I have image samples of LensData v0800 and v801 here:

Thanks. I'll look into this when I get a chance, and post back here if I have any questions.

Yes, thanks. I have fallen quite a bit behind on some requests, sorry.

No need to apologize! It's amazing how busy you are! ;)
Just was double checking. Thanks again.
LensData 0801 will be supported by ExifTool 12.10 when it is released (within the next couple of weeks sometime).
Thanks for this report.

Thanks so much! I'll post this update to the original DPR forum when it's out as well.
Confirmed working! Thanks again!
