Title: Reading date from six digit date group/ four digit time group
Post by: gilhin on January 15, 2022, 06:59:15 PM
Dear,
I am currently trying to get a hold of a bunch of fotos out of different sources.
One of these sources named the files in the convention

YYmmdd-HHmmss.jpg (like 161108-122352 for a foto taken on November 08, 2016)

or even

YYmmdd-HHmm.jpg (like the one before, "just" without the seconds)

Can I get ExifTool to read these defined date/ time groups?

Thank you for your feedback,
best regards

Gilhin

Try
exiftool "-AllDates<20 $Filename 00" /path/to/files/

Wow - that was quick.
Thanks for that.

However, tried it and got the following output...

Warning: No writable tags set from /path/to/file

and

Warning: Invalid tag name '20  00'. Use '=' not '<' to assign a tag value /path/to/file

Any idea?

Use single quotes if you're using Mac/Linux/Powershell.
