Hi,
just a small thing:
exiftool -usercomment -@ D:\1.txt (1.txt includes 2 file names, none has a usercomment)
creates output: '2 files read'
The same comment with just 1 filename in 1.txt without usercomment
creates no output.
Strange though.

This is by design. If you are just reading 1 file it doesn't output the summary statistics.

You can add -progress option (https://exiftool.org/exiftool_pod.html#progress-:-TITLE) and you will get some output.
C:\>exiftool -caption-abstract y:\!temp\Test3.jpg -progress
======== y:/!temp/Test3.jpg [1/1]
C:\
