Is XMP supported with gif. I tried with jpeg, png, tiff and it worked. And then i tried with gif, and it didn't work.

Currently, ExifTool will not write XMP to GIF images. In the XMP spec, it does specify a technique to do this, but I have never seen a GIF with XMP and don't know of any applications that will add. But if it would be useful to you, I'll look into adding this feature. Let me know.
