with the Sony DSLR A100 as well as the DSLR A700, editing exifdata using exiftool always leads to errors such as:

Warning: Bad MakerNotes directory pointer for tag 0x2001

attempting the -F option resulted in no change

so far only the option -m allowed to edit tags - but also resulted in loss of some other tag data.

any permanent solution known ?? like a firmware update or other permanent fix ?

What version of ExifTool are you using?  I have both A100 and
A700 JPEG sample images and I do not see this problem.  If you
have this problem with the most recent version of ExifTool (7.17),
please send me a sample image and the exact command you
are using and I will sort out the problem.  My email is phil at
owl.phy.queensu.ca.
