Title: Error when geocoding

I have geocoded pictures using EXIFTool, but get an error warning that states:

Warning: [minor] Possibly incorrect maker notes offsets (fix by 222?) - D:\albums\2008\P3171432.JPG
Error: [minor] Bad MakerNotes directory pointer for SpecialMode - D:\albums\2008\P3171432.JPG

This happens on all the pictures.  I used GeoSetter to tag the pictures and can see the correct Lat/Long in the EXIF, but the GPSVersionID is a control character (Black square with two vertical lines).  When I upload the pitures to Picasa, the Lat/Long is not displayed.  I tried using GPSVersionIDFixer to correct the GPS Version, but I get the same error messages as above and the versionID remains a control character.

I am using EXIFTool and GeoSetter now, because I previously used LocR and found it was incompatible with Picasa.

Please, any ideas?  I can provide the screen-captured error message and sample picture if it would help.

I have 250 pictures of the New York St Patrick's Day parade to upload!  The frustrating thing is that GeoSetter correctly shows on its map where the picture was taken and I can see the Lat/Long in the EXIF.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

The incorrect maker notes offset error is likely due to
editing the images with some other software that didn't
properly adjust offsets in the maker notes.  If the images
are straight from the camera, please let me know what model
it is and I will look into it further.  You can usually fix
this type of problem using the exiftool -F command line option
when you rewrite the file.  I'm not sure how to do this
through geosetter.

ExifTool writes the GPSVersionID in the correct format.
If your other software isn't displaying it properly, this
is a fault of the other software.  I know that other exiftool
users use Picassa, so I don't know what the problem could be.
Posting a sample image would be useful.
