Good afternoon,

I did not installed EXIFTOOL (not volontary sure...)

If I look the apps or services mounted in memory, there is 6 or 8 instances of exiftool.exe (each about 15 megs plus or minus).

If I begin to close one by one, suddenly 2 or 3 closes at the same time.

I am using ZoneAlarm security suite:: if I say "I do not autorize the launch of exiftool.exe", then 15 minutes or so after that there is still 5 ou 6 new instances of exiftool.

If I do a search on my HDD, I find instances of exiftool in a temp dirnamed PAR-user or user-PAR I do not remember....  The I delete all found.

I do a registry search for the text "exiftool" without "" of course. I find 2 or 3 locations that I delete; I reboot

and it starts again....

Any ideas Huh? I use Vista Home Premium Sp1, 2 megs memory.

Many thanks  Henri  cazeault@gmail.com

When you run exiftool.exe, it creates the files in the temp PAR-user
directory.  But the distributed exiftool.exe is less than 2MB, not 15MB
as you mention.  So there is something funny going on here.
I would run a virus scan on your system.

Oh, sorry.  That's 15MB in memory, not on disk.  That
could be right.

But let me get this straight:  Exiftool is running but
you don't know how it got launched?  Very odd.

yes this is the only thing I did not do (but I will) as I have Zonealarm antivirus + Avast pro co-running live...  and more :: I did not install or launch in anyway exiftool as I did not know it ever exists...

I found this forum durin a search in Google for exiftool to know what was said... or if it was identified as a virus or else...

just to add :: there is always 6 to 8 instances of exiftool.exe running at the same time.  Half of them are between 8 to 10 megs in memory and the rest is about 712 k +/-....  and yes:: I did not launch exiftool as I did not know it was on my HDD...

Have you installed any utility which uses exiftool?  See the
links
section
of the exiftool home page for some examples.  I suppose
it is possible that one of these is launching multiple copies of exiftool.
I'm not a Windows expert, but isn't there a way to tell what process
spawned the exiftool process (as you can in Unix)?  Then you could
tell what was launching the exiftool copies.  Otherwise, check all
your startup processes.  One of them must be launching exiftool.
