I use exiftool on a Windows-box to add some keywords and a title to a large collection of TIFF Images. Every TIFF is 60 MB.
It takes 30 secs for each file to complete the operation. Having 7000 images this takes some time. Is there a way to speed up the file edits?
Thanks,
Koen

Hi Koen,
I have seen a number of complaints about the speed of exiftool
for writing TIFF images, but I personally don't experience the
problem. I have created a 60 MB tiff file here, and run some
speed tests on my PC. Here are the times for rewriting the
60 MB file (with "-xresolution=1") using exiftool 7.39:
12 seconds - "exiftool" in Cygwin
10 seconds - "exiftool.exe" in Windows
14 seconds - "cp" in Cygwin
12 seconds - "Open" plus "Save" in Adobe Photoshop Elements
5 seconds - "copy" in Windows
These times vary by 1 or 2 seconds when I re-run each test, but
ExifTool is faster than a straight copy in Cygwin, and maybe
even faster than an Open/Save in Photoshop Elements, which is
pretty good I think. Somehow the copy in Windows is more
optimized, but exiftool is still within a factor of 2 of a straight
native system copy, so I don't see that this is too bad.
Perhaps you could perform similar tests on your system. What
version of exiftool are you using?
