Title: Panasonic LX3 unknown Tags

Hi,

first of all, I'd like to say, that exiftool solved 90% of my problems. I'm using SceneModes a lot with my LX3 and use exiftool to organize my images in subdirectories by using MakerNotes:ShootingMode.

Since Firmware 2.0 the LX3 has three HRD modes which are the same ShootingMode "unknown (51)" like Portrait. Portrait only has Panasonic tag 0x8002 = 2, the HDR modes can be identified by tag Advanced Scene Mode.

How can I catch the unknown tag "Panasonic 0x8002" eq 2 in if condition?

Greetings from Cologne, Germany

Joerg

Hi Joerg,

The best solution for all involved is to properly decode these tags.
I will add "HDR" for ShootingMode value 51.  Please let me know if there
are any other ShootingMode values you have discovered.

And are you telling me that tag 0x8002 is related to HDR mode?
I have a note that it looks to be focus related.  If you know how
to decode this tag, please let me know and I will add this to
exiftool.

But until then, you can test the unknown tag like this:

Code:
-u -if "$panasonic_0x8002 eq 2"

(note you must use single quotes on Mac or Linux, or double
quotes as above in Windows)

To see the exact tag names for all unknown tags, run exiftool
with the -u and -s options.

I hope this helps.

I just read through the owner's manual for the LX3, and can't
find a reference to an "HDR" (or "HRD") mode.  Are you
talking about the "Intelligent Exposure" feature?

It may be different in the german version of the manual.

Also, be sure you are using a recent version of exiftool.  A
number of new Panasonic tags in this area were just decoded
in version 7.96 (Oct. 2).

Hi Phil,

these are new scene modes added with firmware 2.0:

Shooting Mode eq (51), 0x8002 eq 2 and Advanced Scene Mode eq 1 = Portrait
Shooting Mode eq (51), 0x8002 eq 1 and Advanced Scene Mode eq 1 = HDR Standard
Shooting Mode eq (51), 0x8002 eq 1 and Advanced Scene Mode eq 2 = HDR Art
Shooting Mode eq (51), 0x8002 eq 1 and Advanced Scene Mode eq 3 = HDR B&W

I don't know what 0x8002 is related to, but these are the only tags I could use to identify a difference between Portrai and HDRs.

Thanks,

Joerg

I see.  Thanks.  Please let me know if you figure out what any
of these mean.

I will if I find out, but don't expect much.

Thanks for your support - now everything works perfect. The -u -if "$panasonic_0x8002 eq 2" was the perfect hint to distinguish Portrait from HDRs.

I will recommend exiftool.
