Title: Convert xmp-mrw-rs / picasa face-tags to xmp-mp WLPG
Post by: yab on December 26, 2012, 04:53:03 PM
I started tagging photos using WLPG a while ago and than gave picasa try. I enjoyed the facerecognition of picasa, which i feel to be better than the WLPG one. After i did some work, i realized that

- WLPG writes the face-tags to xmp-mp
- picasa reads theses tags when scanning the photos the first time but then writes to xpm-mwg-rs

I endend up with inconsistencies in face-tags loooking at WLPG and picasa. Because the work done with picasa is based on the work with WPLG and i like to work with picasa more than the other, i would like to

- delete all xmp-mp metadata
- convert xmp-mwg-rs to xmp-mp

The first step seems to be as simple as exiftool -XMP-MP:all= whatever.jpg
Doing some research for the second step, i found a solution to copy xmp-mp to xmp-mwg-rs here in this forum (https://exiftool.org/forum/index.php/topic,4361.msg20807.html#msg20807). But i am totally unable to understand or even more implement it "the other way round". Hopefully someone here likes to help me with this - or point me to another thread, if the solution has already been posted somewhere.

You're right, this conversion is not simple.  I could generate the necessary config file for you, but I don't have time right at the moment.  Give me a day or two and I'll see what I can do.

Hi Marino,

I have created a user-defined tag that will do this conversion for you.

See this post for details (https://exiftool.org/forum/index.php/topic,4361.msg22272.html#msg22272).

Hi Phil,

thank you for your excellent support!

Keep on having fun with your exiftool. :)

I'll try the conversion as soon as possible (right after having a new Notebook available as the old one died this morning).
