Title: "Suspicious IFD1 offset": meaning?
Post by: terrypin on March 27, 2013, 07:13:40 AM
I used this to copy Comment to XPComment:
exiftool "-comment>XPComment" -r "C:\Docs\My Pictures\PHOTOS\Tests"

All files except one ended up correctly with an XPComment tag. After several repetitions I noticed a brief message from ExifTool about that file, starting ""Suspicious IFD1 offset..".

The references I've found from googling are outside my comfort zone. What in simple terms does it mean please, and what if anythng should/could I do about it? The JPG in question is just one of hundreds taken around that time.

As it seems possibly related to thumbnails (?), I did try using Refresh Thumbnails in XP Explorer, but that made no difference.

Hi Terry,

This warning means that the thumbnail image in IFD1 is likely corrupted.  I'm guessing this is not the thumbnail that you refreshed with XP Explorer.

Thanks Phil. Whatever corruption the thumbnail has, it's resistant to Refresh Thumbnail. I refreshed the entire folder.
