Title: Proberbly a simple question but not if you don't know how to do it!!
Post by: a-harvey on September 11, 2013, 05:26:05 PM
Hi Guys,

I am confused on how to use the tool, I have what is possibly an easy question to answer when you know how.
I have a folder full of images all numbered 001.jpg - 002.jpg etc - about 600 of them.

I need to just add a meta description to these from 3 field in an excel sheet - ie lot number, description and estimate.  I could merge into one field if required.

What do I have to do 1)to the excel sheet so it applies the correct description to the correct image and then batch processes them all.

I presume this is an easy enough thing for the software to deal with.

Regards and Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

This is a tricky thing to do, and can be done in a few different ways.  The first way I would suggest is to use the -csv option.  You can search this forum for examples of other people reading CSV files to write metadata to images.  Also, read about the -csv option in the application documentation (https://exiftool.org/exiftool_pod.html) for details.

If you have any problems, post back here with the details and I'll try to help.

Thanks at least I know where to look now.
