Title: Feature request: macro detection in Office Open XML files
Post by: rpbtf on April 09, 2016, 02:17:06 PM
Hello Phil,
could you please add another tag for Open XML files (docx,..) so I can see if there's a macro inside (if the zip contains a vbaProject.bin or not) ?
If possible, I'd like to see that for the old MS Office bin file format too.

Best regards,
Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll look into this and post back here if I have any questions.  It would be useful if you could provide a sample.

Hello Phil,
more information about VBA macros in MS Office 97-2003 and 2007+ documents can be found here: http://www.decalage.info/vba_tools
In Word 2016 you have to use the .docm extension, if the document contains a macro. Otherwise Word will not open it. Rename it to .doc and Word 2016 does it.
It seems that Word 2010 opens .docx also with a macro in it.

Best regards,
Ralf

I'm just closing out this thread.  The current version of ExifTool identifies this test file as DOCM, which I think is what you wanted.
