Title: XMP / EXIF Identical Fields?
Post by: Paul Barrett on November 29, 2016, 02:36:51 AM
Unless I am missing something obvious there is a tag called Create Date that appears in both or either of the EXIF and XMP metadata sections?

Why is this?

I thought the tag names were unique across all sections.  I am obviously wrong.  Is there an explanation for newbies that you can point me towards please?

Regards

There are many tags which have duplicate names.  One main example is the XMP-exif group (http://www.exiftool.org/TagNames/XMP.html#exif) which are often simply copies of EXIF tags.

As for why

Actually, ExifTool attempts to make the tag names consistent across different metadata types.  This allows information to be more easily converted from one metadata type to another.

Hm.  I am beginning to think I shouldn't have asked!  :)
