Hi I tried to type the following command
exiftool -sonymodelid="ILCE-7M2" -ext ARW *.arw
and it appears the following message
Warninig: [minor] Oversized SubID StrioByteCounts (48674304 bytes, but expected 42590016) - DSC00308.ARW
The result is that no changes is applied to the images.
Could you please suggest me what to do ?
Many thanks
That warning will not prevent the file from being written. There must be something else going on.
For this command to work, SonyModelID must already exist in the file since you can't add or delete individual MakerNote tags.
Also, using -ext arw with a file of *.arw is redundant.

" There must be something else going on."
How can I investigate further ?
Run this command on the file:
exiftool -sonymodelid FILE
If it doesn't report a SonyModelID, then that's the problem.
If it does, and this command still doesn't work:
exiftool -sonymodelid="ILCE-7M2" FILE
then send the file to me and I'll take a look. My email is philharvey66 at gmail.com

Phil, I'm getting the exact same issue with a new ILCE-7RM2 and a Samsung 128Gb SDCard
I tried the two command you suggested above. It returned the correct model ID (after I used 7M2) and still fails with the same error as above?
To qualify, if I open them up in a MacOS Finder window the Preview will open them, but LIGHTROOM still thinks they are an unsupported filetype.
Phil,
I've just looked into this more closely. I am at fault. I am running LR 5.7.1 and that won't take the ARW files even with EXIF adjustment (as far as I can see), I need to upgrade to LR 6 or take the plunge to CC and eternal subscriptions.
Apologise for clogging your inbox.
