Split video to .jpeg frames with exif data?

Hello ExifTool Forum,

This is my first post here, so be gentle on me if this question has an obvious answer.

I am part of a research lab where we frequently must synchronize image data to other sources of data (digital compass, GPS, temperature, pressure, etc. etc.). This is quite simple with images which contain exif data to reference. My question is about how to perform a similar procedure with video data. Is there a way, knowing the frame rate and either start/end time of the video, that each frame can be extracted with, at the very least, a time stamp stored as exif data for the image??

Is there a way to extract only a subset of these frames? For example, for a 60 fps video, is there a way to extract every 6th frame, each having a time stamp in exif data?

If the video has already been through several processing steps and no longer has start/end time data associated with it, is there a way to manually specify the start time before this procedure?

Finally, do any of the ExifTool GUIs for Windows have simplified support for this procedure?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Hi Matt,

Unfortunately, ExifTool does not have the ability to extract frames from a video, so I don't think it will help with what you are doing.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
