Multiple passes still get "fixed" errors

Using v12.11 I to write jpgs with exiftool (updating keywords) and first says minor errors (mostly maker notes) are fixed, then when I run again, I get the same or similar error.

Should the error have been fixed on the first pass as stated?

Could you provide a sample file so I can take a look?  You can mail it to me: philharvey66 at gmail.com

I have an idea about this.  If ExifTool fixes something in the EXIF, but you didn't write any EXIF tags, then it is possible that the file wouldn't get updated with the fixed EXIF.  But I'd have to see a sample to be sure.

To be honest, this is behavior I've noticed since way back.  Probably because I collect a lot of images from the web and encountered a lot of badly formed metadata.  No samples at the moment, as they've all been fixed.
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype

Hello,

please allow to give my 2 cents.

A long time ago, I found such images. I was astonished that Exiftool said: "something ... corrected" also in case of only display metadata.
But nothing had changed and so the same message was given for all display-tasks I sent to Exiftool.

Today I think in case of a "only display task" Exiftool must not fix such images.
With a task that also writes/changes metadata it is ok for me.

Thanks in advance and
Best regards
