Hi Phil, thanks for the support you offer with this tool.
I had a problem with the SD card in a Sony DSC830 as it became unreadable.
Using the PHOTOREC application I extracted the video files ( normally mp4 ) that I had not copied before on my Mac.
But when I tried to see them I had a issue: they seem unreliable by VLC or quick movie and strangely they are .mov while the photo machine normally creates mp4 files .
I tried to change the suffix from mov to mp4 but without success.
I suspect that I should use your exitool app, but it seems a little  complex for me at first glance .
Do you know if there is a guide to use extool for a first time user to recover the metadata of these  video files  to areadable mp4, or a service that could do this for me remotely as paid service ?

Many thanks , Cosimo

Is the problem that you cannot copy the file from the SD card or that the file on your HD doesn't play?

In the first case, there's nothing exiftool can do, as it only edits metadata in a file and that would need a file recovery program to copy it off of a corrupt SD card.

In the second case, it sounds like the file would be corrupt. There isn't anything exiftool can do in this case either.

If you can share the file through something like Google Drive or Dropbox, we can take a look at it and see what might be wrong.
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype
