There is outdated info in the top box on the Installing ExifTool page
QuoteThis doesn't apply to the Windows version which unpacks the libraries into a temporary directory

"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

hey i know i am technically thread jacking here, but:

"The solution is to control-click on the pkg then select "Open" from the pop-up menu instead of just double-clicking. An alternative is to lower the security settings by changing "Allow applications downloaded from" to "Anywhere" in the General "Security & Privacy" System Preferences. (Read here or here for a full description.)"

is also not true anymore on macOS 15, Sequoia.  so lame.  you right click and try now, and see the attached.  no straight path.

you have to know to go into System Settings (no longer System Preferences) go to the "Privacy & Security" setting (no longer "Security & Privacy, groan) and have to press "Open Anyway" down under the Security section, as shown:

An alternative for MacOS - as noted on the install page - and what I do:

exiftool -XAttrQuarantine= ExifTool-13.05.pkg

I've updated the install page to reflect the MacOS 15 procedure.
