Image without gps coordinates

Hi there.

I'm trying to use exiftool to print an image metadata. The image has GPS coordinates but I can't display lat/long. It would be my exiftool version (13) ?

The coordinates are part of the image, not embedded in the file. There is nothing embedded in the file except a very basic JFIF block

I even attempted to OCR the data with Tesseract. The background is too complex to properly read the characters. This was the output from Tesseract

Thank you for answer.

I installed an app Exiftool that display the GPS informations, but I think I'm not able to get it.

So, I believe I don't know how to use correctly Exiftool, a pretty powerfull tool.

I'll keep trying.

If you detect a mistake of mine, please let me know where is my mistake.

I really needed to confirm that the photo did not contained GPS info.

I took that shot from a app called Timestamp Camera and shared using whatsapp.

I think I losed the photo's GPS info when I shared that by whatsapp.

Is there a way to avoid that loss?

WhatsApp strips away all metadata, as does most social media and messaging apps.

You should check to make sure that the app adds any metadata in the first place, which is pretty unlikely as most apps don't add any metadata.

Otherwise, you would have to use something like Google Drive/Photos or Dropbox in order to get the unedited version.

I solved it.
I created an endpoint that get metadata from a picture took by TimeStamp app.

Now I'm trying to take gps info from a video mp4. Th fight goes on.

WhatsApp strips away all metadata, as does most social media and messaging apps.

AFAIR WhatsApp has an option to send an image taken with the iPhone Camera.app (not taken while inside WhatsApp), and then send it as a document with metadata.

But that is clumsy so most people send those documents as photos and then WhatsApp strips metadata off. If WhatsApp itself takes the photo, then it seems there is no way to include metadata and those images might have lost their metadata in the Camera.app's camera roll anyway.

The same applies to movies which WhatsApp resamples and re-encodes to tiny mess of pixels with no metadata.

I have not tested this extensively because I try to avoid WhatsApp photos unless for very casual use with unimportant footage that can be trashed. And I try to ask other people re-send important footage to me as documents or via some cloud service without any edits done in the mobile device.
